26th November 2008, a terror attack took place in the land of culture & diversity- India, which shook people all around the globe. Around 174 people lost their lives, more than 300 were wounded. For straight 60 hours, the people of Mumbai were hearing the bullets being fired in their beloved city. Even after 12 years of this terrifying incident whenever we think about it. It sends chills down our spine. Let’s take a look at what happened during the Mumbai Terror Attack.

Evil minds behind the 26/11 attack
A group of 24 men was being trained at the Mangla Dam reservoir, Pakistan to carryout this attack. This group was from the infamous Lashkar-e-taiba, an extremist organization based in Pakistan known for carrying out such atrocious attacks. Out of the lot 24 men, 10 were handpicked to execute the Mumbai Terror Attack and as a matter of fact they were trained with Lashkar basic and advanced combat training combined with commando training from retired army personnel of the Pakistan Army. What happened in Mumbai Terror Attack?
The financial capital of India on 26th November 2008 became the victim of this horrifying incident when those terrorists targeted the following places to execute the Mumbai Terror Attack.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus
The terrorists reached Mumbai using a fish trawler from the Pakistani Port in Karachi. At sharp 9:20 pm Chhatrapati Shivaji terminus was attacked. This attack lasted for 90 minutes leaving 58 people dead and more than 100 injured at the spot.
After attacking the railway station, the terrorists proceeded towards the Cama hospital. The hospital authorities were prompt and had locked the entrances of the hospital. God knows what disaster could have happened if they would have been able to get inside the hospital. Terrorists ambushed a police jeep outside this hospital and killed 6 men including the ATS chief Hemant Karkare.
Nariman Business and Residential Complex
The terrorists then blew up a Gas station, subsequently another attack happened after 10 minutes at the Nariman house Business and Residential Complex.
The Leopold Cafe
After some time, bullets were being sprayed all over the Leopold Cafe, more than 10 diners were ruthlessly killed by four terrorists. Bombs were planted inside taxis which led to massive killing and destruction of innocent people.
The Taj Hotel Palace & The Oberoi Trident
The next target of these sick and evil-minded individuals was the Taj Hotel & The Oberoi trident. They entered through the front door firing aimlessly, throwing grenades, and killing every person they could: man, woman, children, aged people none of them were spared. More than 30 people were massacred at this iconic spot in the Mumbai Terror Attack.
This onslaught lasted for 3 days which resulted in a death toll of more than 160 people. Out of them, almost 114 were male victims aged between 5 to 70 years. 68 died from bullet injuries, 30 from blast injuries and some died of both bullet and blast injuries.
The Heroes of Mumbai Terror Attack
26/11 attack could have been much more disastrous. A lot more lives would have been killed. If only the heroes of our defence forces wouldn’t have been there for us. Time and again they have proved their mettle, they have shown that they love their country more than anything else in this world. They are ready to sacrifice their lives just to make sure that their country is in a safe condition.
On 26th November 2008, the then CM of Maharashtra Mr. Vilasrao Deshmukh stated that 15 policemen and 2 NSG commandos lost their lives while saving others.
The Brave & Fearless Men
Constable Tukaram Omble who was able to capture Ajmal Kasab alive, took 40 bullets of AK-47 while doing so. Ajmal Kasab was later on hanged to death on 21st November 2012. However, the bullets succumbed Mr. Tukaram Omble to death.
The Joint Commissioner of Police and ATS chief Mr. Hemant Karkare was martyred when the terrorists attacked his team outside the Cama Hospital.
The additional commissioner of Mumbai Police Mr. Ashok Kamte got martyred in action near St Xaviers College, Mumbai.
Many other brave fighters like Senior Inspector Vijay Salaskar, Shashank Shinde, Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, Hawaldar Gajendra Singh Bisht were martyred while saving other people’s lives.
